The Native 5 is the latest generation in a long, successful line of high performance knives. Named the Native, because it is made in the USA. This Native 5 is built to Spyderco's highest standards, features incredible blade steel and striking good looks, showcased by its FRN scales which are the signature colour of the blade steel. The 75mm (2.95") Leaf shaped blade features a full flat grind for unparalleled edge geometry which allows for effortless slicing.
The blade shape and geometry, tough steel, grippy and indestructible FRN handles and the secure back-lock design, which is very easy to use with gloves on, make this one of our top picks for a hard use working knife.
Maxamet Bade Steel
Maxamet is an extremely hard high-speed powdered tool steel possessing properties that transcend conventional high-speed tool steels and approach those of cemented carbides—the ultra-hard materials used to machine other steels. When Carpenter developed this amazing alloy for the rollers in their steel mills, they sent samples to various companies in the knife industry to evaluate as a blade material. Although many tried, Spyderco was one of only a handful of companies to successfully develop the specialized methods necessary to machine, heat treat, and grind this demanding material to yield reliable, high-performance knife blades. We are now proud to offer it in selected models made in our U.S. factory in Golden, Colorado.
SPY27 Blade Steel
In close cooperation with Crucible® Industries, Spyderco have developed CPM SPY27—a particle metallurgy stainless steel containing a proprietary mix of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen, and cobalt.
This remarkable composition, enhanced by the amplifying effects of cobalt and the state-of-the-art Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, is produced exclusively for Spyderco and will be featured in select USA-made models. Every knife made with this steel will also have a distinctive cobalt-blue handle colour that highlights its elite pedigree.
